twitter

I have to say that I am happy we don't have to sign up for twitter to complete this assignment. I have had someone contact me on facebook from doing the facebook assignment and he was VERY inappropriate! The tweets on the library sites seem to be useful information for customers, and I think that is exactly what they should be about. Although I must say, I won't use twitter myself, but for those who do use it and want to follow a particular branch, this is great!

library thing

I signed up for an account with library thing and took the tour. I then searched for a book. I think it was user friendly enough, but I don't think it's my kind of site. If I could read the books while at the site, that might be different, but I don't own that many books to need to keep them organized, and it's not important for me to keep track of what I've read. I will not be using this site again.

I tried the google calendar. I may use it again, it's nice to have a back up of my calendar online. I use my phone and a calendar at home, but backing up as much as possible is always a good idea. I could see how this online calendar could catch on because it would make it easy to see appointments etc from anywhere as long as you have internet access.

You tube and Flickr

I find that both Flickr and you tube are user friendly. I use You tube on a regular basis and have used flickr in the past while taking a photo course. Both sites are great for entertainment value and for sharing photos and videos

RSS Feeds

I didn't find that RSS feeds for bloglines were very user friendly. When I click on the rss feed icon, it adds the feed to the computer I'm on, not into my blogline account, then when I tried the other way (url address added to bloglines) bloglines couldn't find a feed for that address. Very frustrating, so I gave up. I don't think I would use this very much anyway, so it's not really too important to me to have that service.

Google Universe

I have used Google Earth many times. I like to use it because it shows a 3D view of the area you want to look at. You can zoom in and out, and add roads and buildings. It's fun to use and can be useful if you are going to an area you aren't familiar with. There is nothing I don't like about Google Earth. I would recomend it to friends and family, and have done so in the past.

Delicious

Delicious was difficult for me to navigate. It didn't seem to be set up in a way that is user friendly. The colors were difficult to look at, as well as making it hard to see what you were looking for. Everything seemed to be all one color and it was hard to find the exact button, since they seemed to be different variations of the same color. I did find some interesting information, but I don't see it as being a website I would use on a regular basis in my private life. I don't do Ref desk so don't know how much I would use it for that.

Wikepedia

I found an article on Fish Creek park that needed a small update. I added the information that the city has expanded beyond the edges of the park, as opposed to the park reaching from one side of the city to the other.

Social Networking

For me Facebook is very useful. I am able to stay in touch with many people I wouldn't have been able to otherwise. Plus I can send a quick note to someone as easily as an email, and it's just as secure. I also feel that fb is a great way to see how others are doing without having to call or email each one individually.

CPL 2.0

I would like to learn blogging from CPL 2.0 which is something I have never really done before. I have read other blogs, but not really posted to my own before. I would also like to learn some more computer skills.
